Planting Instructions
Plant squash in well-drained aerated soil.
Plant 4 to 5 seeds in hills 2' to 3' apart (see seed packet for exact spacing of different varieties.) Thin to the 3 healthiest plants in each hill.
In rows, plant 2 to 3 seeds per foot but thin to one squash for every 2' feet when true leaves begin to emerge.
Squash can be planted indoors in potting soil about three weeks prior to the date of last frost. Put one seed per pot and place in full sun or under fluorescent lights. Squash should be harden off outdoors before being transplanted into the ground. Squash should not be allowed to grow too large in pots before transplanting as plant will suffer setback when transplanted and growth will be slowed or stunted.
Insects, particularly honeybees, pollinate these plants. If they are not available the plants may not set fruit due to lack of pollination. Insufficient pollination sometimes results in deformed fruits.
