Choosing a good roof cleaning company is not as easy as just doing a quick search in the Yellow Pages and picking the nearest one in your area. That is, if you want to make sure that your roof cleaning is going to be carried out by licensed professionals who know exactly what they are doing.

Scams are rife in the roof cleaning industry. Many businesses start the process of cleaning, of course after taking a deposit, never to finish the job. What you're left with is a botched job that no other roof cleaning company wants to touch. But, following some simple checks would have saved you from the disaster.

To make your life easier and save you from any troubles down the road, first make sure that your roof cleaning company is both comprehensively insured and bonded, and that it carries Workman's Compensation for its workers. You don't want one of these fellows falling off your roof and presenting you with a claim for compensation do you?

For the sake of your health and the environment you need to be aware of the type of chemicals your roof cleaning company is going to use. Sure, some may do a fantastic job at removing mold and mildew, but you don't want any toxic run-off entering your drains, or your lawns or gardens. Naturally, you and all other inhabitants should stay clear while your roof cleaning company is doing the job.

Many people are only just realizing that the black discoloration that they see on their tile or shingle roof isn't dirt but a type of algae that is thriving on fiberglass roofing shingles in particular. This new roofing technology comes with a downside in areas that are humid, and that is because they contain limestone filler which provides a continuous banquet for algae who just love to eat it. Not only does this look unsightly, but if it is not removed it will considerably shorten the life of the roof.

Important benefit of a frequent roof cleaning, especially in tropical areas, is the climate comfort in your house. Dark roofs, covered in algae and dirt, attract more sun... and heat. So, unless you're prepared to pay more for your air conditioning, you'll live in uncomfortably hot house. No easy solution here, except from getting your roof cleaning company on the job.
