WHAT TO DO WITH YOUR LAWN IN SUMMER HEAT

The most important part of lawn maintenance is proper watering during the summer months.  The stress of summer heat makes proper maintenance important.

Water in the early morning hours.  On a 100-degree day almost 30% of the water from your sprinklers can evaporate before even hitting the ground.  Night watering invites fungus.

Set your mower height at least one inch higher than you do in the spring and fall months.  The taller blades of grass will help shade the root zone.

Do not fertilize during hot months.  What you put on your lawn in the spring will suffice.

Keep the blade of your mower sharp and mow often.  Leave the lawn clippings on the lawn to decompose.

If you think you may have bill bug, tug on the blades of grass in the dead areas.  Drought damaged grass will not pull up from the roots.  Bill bug damaged grass will.  Check with your local lawn and garden store for proper treatment.

Remember watering sufficiently is the key in June, July, and August.  Keep it flowing!
